A simple, clear process for bringing an outdoor sauna into your home
Your sauna is made to order in Britain and installed with a clear process from first enquiry to first use.
Choosing a sauna for your home should feel clear and manageable. People often imagine the installation process is complicated, but we have designed each step to be simple and well supported. From your first message to the moment you sit inside your own sauna, everything is planned to remove uncertainty and ensure your sauna is delivered professionally.
Every sauna is built to order in the UK using solid materials and a traditional timber frame. You can personalise your sauna with additional features such as integrated audio, WiFi controls or an outdoor shower, and we guide you through all preparation requirements, including electrics and groundwork.
Our process
Your initial enquiry
You get in touch and we begin with a straightforward conversation about your space, your preferences and how you would like to use your outdoor sauna.
We discuss practical considerations such as garden size, access, seating capacity and preferred features to ensure your sauna fits naturally into your home environment.
This initial stage helps us recommend the most suitable sauna model and ensures the final installation works seamlessly with your property.

Designing your sauna
Once we understand your space and requirements, we prepare your sauna specification. This includes layout details, finishes and optional upgrades such as:
- Integrated audio system
- WiFi heater controls
- Outdoor shower integration
- Lighting upgrades
- Additional shelving or seating
- Privacy glass
- Internal and external cladding upgrades
Because every sauna is made to order, your final design is tailored to your space, preferences and how you plan to use your sauna at home.

Building your sauna
Your outdoor sauna is handcrafted in our workshop in Worcestershire by our specialist team using durable timber construction, insulated wall systems and thermally treated interior wood chosen for stability and performance in high temperatures.
Each sauna is built section by section to ensure precise assembly, effective insulation and consistent heat retention.
When a sauna is built properly, it performs reliably. The temperature remains stable, the structure lasts for years and the experience remains comfortable with minimal maintenance.

Delivery and installation
Depending on access, your sauna is delivered to your home either fully constructed ready for installation, or in pre-built sections and assembled on site by our professional installation team. Most outdoor sauna installations are completed within one day.
We handle positioning, assembly, sealing and final setup so the sauna is ready for use when we leave.
There is no need to coordinate multiple contractors. Everything is managed by our team, ensuring a tidy, efficient and professional installation.

True North is a certified member of the Made in Britain, meaning our saunas are genuinely designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom. Every model is developed in-house and built in our British workshop, where we control the process from design through to final assembly. This allows us to focus on the details that matter – usable space, bench design, airflow and thermal performance – while maintaining strict quality standards. Wherever possible we prioritise responsibly sourced materials and trusted suppliers, creating products that are built to perform, built to last, and built in Britain.
Preparing your base and electrics
If you are working with a builder or electrician, we can communicate directly with them to ensure everything is prepared correctly.
A solid base ensures your outdoor sauna remains stable and secure. Correct electrical preparation ensures safe operation and efficient heat performance.
Understanding your outdoor space
Understanding the placement early allows us to confirm orientation, access routes and any groundwork requirements, ensuring your sauna sits naturally within its surroundings.
First use and ongoing support
You will receive practical guidance on operating your heater, ventilation and controls, along with general advice to help you get the best experience from regular sauna use. Our team remains available if you need assistance, ensuring continued support long after installation.

Our materials
Built with materials chosen for long term performance
A high-quality outdoor sauna depends on the materials used in its construction. We select each component based on durability, heat performance and how it feels to use over time.
Every material is chosen to improve both the sauna experience and the lifespan of the structure, ensuring long-term reliability and comfort.
We use thermo aspen for the interior cladding and seating areas. This specialised timber remains stable at high temperatures, resists warping and maintains a smooth, comfortable finish over time.
It handles changes in moisture effectively and provides a clean, natural interior environment designed for regular sauna use.
Using thermo timber ensures your sauna interior remains durable and comfortable for years.
We use thermo spruce for the exterior cladding. Through a specialised thermal treatment process, the timber becomes more stable, durable and resistant to moisture. This improves its longevity in outdoor environments while maintaining the natural character of the wood. The result is a strong, weather-resistant exterior designed to protect the sauna structure for years to come.
Shou Sugi Ban is a traditional Japanese wood-charring technique used to enhance durability and protection. The surface of the timber is carefully charred, brushed and sealed, creating a deep, textured finish while improving resistance to weather, insects and decay. The result is a striking exterior that is both visually distinctive and naturally resilient.
Our saunas use a three-layer insulation system designed to retain heat efficiently while protecting the structure. This includes high-performance insulation, a heat-reflective vapour barrier and an internal air gap that allows the sauna to heat quickly and maintain consistent temperatures. The system improves energy efficiency and ensures a stable thermal environment during every session.
Effective airflow is essential for a proper sauna experience. Our ventilation system introduces fresh air while allowing stale air and excess moisture to exit through a dedicated exhaust. This keeps the air inside the sauna comfortable, supports even heat distribution and helps maintain a clean interior environment during and after use.
Do I need planning permission for an outdoor sauna?
Most outdoor saunas fall under permitted development in the UK, provided they stay under height limits and are placed appropriately. We help you confirm this for your property.
How long does a custom outdoor sauna take to build?
Once your sauna specification is confirmed, the manufacturing process usually takes 6-8 weeks, depending on our production line at the time. A clear delivery timeline is provided before production begins.
What groundwork do I need for a garden sauna?
Your sauna must be raised slightly to allow airflow and protect against moisture. This is typically achieved using concrete supports on a level base such as paving, decking or a concrete pad.
What electrical supply is required?
Depending on heater size, either single-phase or three-phase electricity may be required. We provide full specifications for your electrician.
Can I customise the sauna?
Yes. You can add Bluetooth speakers, WiFi controls, an outdoor shower and other practical features. All saunas are made to order and designed around your preferences.
How is the sauna delivered and installed?
Most outdoor sauna installations are completed within one day. Your sauna will either be assembled on site or delivered pre-built, depending on access and model.
Can I use the sauna all year round?
Yes. The insulation, materials and heating systems are selected to perform reliably throughout all seasons in the UK.
